CONSUMER PRICE INDICES AND INFLATION RATES FOR AUGUST 2022

The overall year on year inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 8.5 per cent, in August 2022. As presented in Tables 1 and 2, the rise in inflation was mainly due to increase in prices of commodities under food and non-alcoholic beverages (15.3 per cent); transport (7.6 per cent) and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (5.6 per cent) between August 2021 and August 2022.
