PRODUCER PRICE INDEX, FIRST QUARTER 2020

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has released the Producer Price Index (PPI) for the first quarter of 2020. The price changes are measured from the perspective of the producer. The prices are collected as at 15th February, 15th May, 15th August and 15th November of the year. These dates correspond to the first, second, third and fourth quarters of the year, respectively.

The Producer Price Indices are grouped according to the International Standards of Industrial Classifications of All Economic Activities (ISIC) Rev 4. Weights have been revised based on the Census of Industrial Production (CIP) carried out in 2018

The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) is a modular survey under the Kenya Continuous Household Survey Programme (KCHSP). The programme is designed to provide a constant stream of data on a wide range of socio-economic indicators. The QLFS collects information about the Kenyan labour market activities for the population aged 5 years and above.

This quarterly release analyses the labour market situation for the population aged 15 to 64 years. Topics covered include labour force participation, employment, unemployment, Labour underutilization and inactivity.

This report presents the results for the period September to December 2019.

Consumer Price Indices and Inflation Rates for March 2020

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has released the Consumer Price Indices (CPI) and rates of inflation for March 2020.   The CPI increased by 0.18 per cent from 106.33 in February 2020 to 106.53 in March 2020. The overall year on year inflation in March 2020 stood at 6.06 per cent.

These numbers are based on the new CPI whose base period is February 2019.  The indices were generated from a survey of retail prices that targeted a basket of household consumption goods and services. The exercise was conducted during the second and third weeks of the month, with prices being obtained from selected retail outlets which comprised of 50 data collection zones, 14 of which are in Nairobi and 36 in other urban areas.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics will be releasing three products; new Consumer Price Index (CPI), new Producer Price Index (PPI) and four Quarterly Labour Reports on 31st March 2020.
