Director General
Dr. Macdonald George Obudho serves as the Director General at Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, where he has dedicated his career to promoting excellence in the development and production of high-quality official statistics in Kenya. With a wealth of experience in top management roles spanning over seventeen years, he has led various technical teams in conducting population and housing censuses, registration and profiling of farmers, and designing and executing numerous sample surveys.
Dr. Obudho is a respected authority in the field of statistics, playing a key role in the development and implementation of statistical methods and standards, statistics policies, laws, and production, as well as the dissemination and utilization of statistical data. His leadership as Director of Population and Social Statistics was instrumental in overseeing the successful execution of the first digital census during the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of statistics and his innovative approach to data collection, he has been honored with two State Commendation Awards: Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) in 2023 and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2019. He is a registered member of the Kenya National Statistical Society. Dr. Obudho holds a PhD degree in Applied Statistics, a Master of Science degree in Statistics, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, all from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
He has a number of certificates under his name that arise from short courses, workshops and seminars attended both locally and internationally. Dr. Obudho also serves as a Board Director of Tourism Research Institute, Hazina SACCO, among others.

Director, Statistical Coordination and Methods
Benjamin Avusevwa is the Director of Statistical Coordination and Methods.
He was appointed to this post in October 2020. Avusevwa joined the then Central Bureau Statistics 1995 as a Statistician and later joined the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) in 2009. Prior to this appointment, he was Head of External, Fiscal and Financial Statistics Division and Coordinator of National Strategy for the Development of Statistics.
His career is focused on strategic planning, production and management of official statistics. He has vast experience in the compilation and analysis of Macroeconomic Statistics with expertise in External Sector Statistics. He has also extensive experience of business survey methodology and contributed to the development of the UN International Merchandise Trade statistics: Concepts and definitions 2010.
In the past, he has represented the KNBS on several technical groups and committees. Internationally, he has worked closely with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the East African Community (EAC) on development and use of statistical frameworks and methodologies. He has complemented his KNBS experience with being a member of EAC High-level Task Force for the development of East African Monetary Union protocol, member of Kenya delegation in the negotiation of EAC Common Market protocol, and Kenya delegation team leader in the development of the bill for establishment of East African Statistics Bureau.
Avusevwa is a statistician by profession having obtained a Master of Science degree in Statistics from the University of Nairobi in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics and Computer Studies from Kenyatta University in 1994. He is also a holder of a certificate in computer network engineering from Okinawa International Centre under Japan International Cooperation in 2001. He has undertaken various courses related to production of statistics, strategic management, risk management and strategic leadership inside and outside Kenya over the years. He is an accredited statistician with Kenya National Statistics Society.

The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Kenya National Bureau of Statistics warmly welcome Dr. Jane Weru to the Bureau. Dr. Weru is the new Director Corporate Services having taken over from Madam Ann Mburu who exited the Bureau last year.
Dr. Weru brings 23 years of extensive management and technical experience in human resource management having served in diverse human resource leadership positions. Prior to joining KNBS, she served as a Senior Lecturer at the South Eastern Kenya University-School of Business and Economics and served in an acting capacity as the Director-Human Resource management in the same University; was a Deputy Director at the State Corporations Advisory Committee and Head of Human Resource Management at Technical University of Mombasa. She has wealth of experience on governance and management of state corporations having worked in the inspectorate of state corporations for thirteen (13) years.
Her notable achievements include development of Human Resource Policy Instruments for State Corporations such as the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Commission for University Education (CUE), Kenya Marine and Fisheries Institute (KMFRI), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Private Security Regulatory Authority(PSRA) and University of Nairobi(UoN) among others.
A Certified Human Resource Professional in Kenya, Dr. Jane Weru earned her Doctor of Philosophy-Human Resource Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She also possesses a Masters of Science in Human Resource Management and is a Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management-Kenya (IHRM-K).

Director, Production Statistics
Mr. Robert Nderitu is a statistician by profession and holds a Master of Science Degree (Statistics) from Kenyatta University. He has more than twenty (20) years’ experience in the field of Statistics and through appropriate training and experience both locally and internationally, has been undertaking duties related to production and management of Statistics. This includes; preparing concept papers and proposals; providing economic planning, analytical, statistical, demographic and other related services; designing and maintaining business register and sampling frames; designing data collection instruments; designing surveys and censuses; collecting and analyzing statistics on various thematic areas; monitoring living conditions by collecting, compiling and disseminating data on Consumer Price Indices (CPI) as well as income and expenditure levels; and compiling other development Indexes including Human Development Indexes.
He is currently in-charge of Production Statistics Directorate whose mandate involves collection, analysis, generation and dissemination of statistics in the areas of Labour, Prices, Industrial, Agriculture and Livestock, Environment and Nutrition statistics. The National Information Platform for Food and Nutrition (NIPFN) Project which aims at promoting stakeholders dialogue and strengthen national capacity to manage and analyse existing information and data from all sectors that influence food security and nutrition to better inform decision making & improve nutrition and food security is also implemented from the directorate. He also coordinates the monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at KNBS.
He has represented the KNBS on several technical groups, committees and international conferences and in his line of duty, has worked closely with various international organization including the World Bank and the International Labour Organization. He has also offered technical support to several statistical offices including those of Malawi, Swaziland and Timor Leste.
Nderitu has undertaken various courses related to production of statistics, cooperate governance, strategic management, risk management and strategic leadership inside and outside Kenya over the years. He is a qualified quality management system internal auditor and heads a team of champions in implementing the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System in the Bureau. He is a member of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). He is an accredited statistician with Kenya National Statistics Society and was honoured with a State Award; The Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) of Kenya in 2019 as a result of his exemplary work in Statistics.

Mr. Benjamin Muchiri is an Economist/Statistician with over 30 years of progressive experience in the compilation, analysis, and advancement of macroeconomic statistics, with deep specialization in national accounts. In January 2026, he was appointed Director of the Macroeconomic Statistics Directorate at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), marking a significant milestone in a career dedicated to strengthening official statistics in Kenya and across the African continent.
Mr. Muchiri began his professional journey at the Central Bureau of Statistics, later transitioning to KNBS, where he served as Senior Manager responsible for National Accounts as well as Transportation and Storage, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Tourism Statistics. Throughout his tenure, he has provided strategic leadership in the production and dissemination of high-quality official statistics, development of survey instruments, statistical manuals, and methodological frameworks, and the modernization of statistical processes in line with global best practices.
He is widely recognized for his expertise in harmonizing macroeconomic statistics in accordance with international standards, including the System of National Accounts (SNA) and the International Comparison Program (ICP). His work has contributed significantly to improving the accuracy, comparability, and credibility of national accounts and related macroeconomic indicators.
At the international level, Mr. Muchiri has served as a consultant and capacity-building expert for leading development partners, including the World Bank, the United Nations, and the African Development Bank. He has also supported regional statistical harmonization initiatives under the East African Community (EAC) and contributed to continental strategies for the implementation of SNA frameworks across Africa.
As Director of the Macroeconomic Statistics Directorate, he oversees the collection, analysis, production, and dissemination of national accounts, balance of payments and external sector statistics, government finance statistics, monetary and financial statistics, as well as transportation and storage, ICT, and tourism statistics. His leadership is characterized by a strong commitment to data quality, innovation, institutional capacity development, and the strengthening of national statistical systems.
Mr. Muchiri holds a Master of Science in International Economics, Finance and Development from the University of Surrey (2007), UK, a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Computer Studies from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (1994), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Modelling and Accounting for Sustainable Development from the International Institute of Social Studies (2002), The Netherlands. He has also undertaken various professional training in statistical production, strategic management, risk management, and leadership.
With strong analytical acumen, strategic insight, and proven project management capabilities, Mr. Muchiri continues to play a pivotal role in advancing macroeconomic statistics and promoting evidence-based policymaking at national, regional, and international levels.

Director, Population and Social Statistics
Ms. Rosemary Chepkoech is a seasoned statistician with 30 years of experience in statistical production and management. As Director of Population and Social Statistics at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, she oversees the compilation and analysis of complex national datasets that inform policy and development planning in Kenya.
Rosemary holds a Master of Economics degree from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing a PhD in Economics at Kenyatta University. She is an accredited statistician with the Statistical Society of Kenya and a certified Quality Management System (QMS) Internal Auditor, championing ISO 9001:2015 implementation within the Bureau.
Her expertise spans statistical survey design, research methodology, and analytical report writing, with particular focus on population, social, and macroeconomic indicators. She has contributed to landmark national statistical programmes including the Kenya Population and Housing Censuses, Kenya Demographic and Health Surveys, Kenya Integrated Household Budget Surveys, and Kenya’s first National School Census.
At the regional level, Rosemary provided critical technical support for the development of the East African Monetary Union Protocol and the East African Community Statistical Database. She has also shaped national policy through her service on the Presidential Committee reviewing Kenya’s new university funding model. She is a dynamic leader with a proven track record in strategic thinking and team coordination in multi-skilled, multicultural environments while delivering data-driven insights that support evidence-based decision-making.
