THE 2024 REMITTANCES HOUSEHOLD PILOT SURVEY
The 2024 Remittances Household Survey (RHS) is a baseline survey whose main objective is to quantify the value of inward and outward remittances both in cash and in-kind in the last 12 months preceding the survey. The survey also aims to collect information on the access and use of transfers to households in Kenya from households outside Kenya (including Kenyans in the Diaspora).
The survey is a collaborative effort between KNBS, the Central Bank of Kenya, Financial Sector Deepening (FSD)-Kenya and the State Department for Diaspora Affairs (SDDA). The Pilot Survey was preceded by a household listing with the target respondents being households which indicated having family, friends or relatives abroad; and who either received cash or in-kind transfers from abroad or sent cash or in-kind transfers abroad in the last twelve months (August,2023 to September, 2024).
The pilot exercise is being conducted in 6 counties of Makueni, Nairobi, Kilifi, Nyeri, Kericho and Garissa from 5th September,2024 to 9th September,2024 and is intended to provide early insights into the survey methodology in readiness for the roll-out of the main survey later in the year.
The field teams comprise of a Supervisor, Research Assistants, a team driver and Coordinators from the collaborating institutions. The survey is being administered through Computer-Aided Personal Interviews (CAPI).
