Overview
In October 2024, the Kenyan Shilling appreciated against the Sterling Pound, Euro, Japanese Yen, and Tanzanian Shilling, remained stable against the US Dollar, and depreciated against the South African Rand and Ugandan Shilling, as shown in Table 2. The average yield rate for 91-day Treasury Bills declined from 15.75 per cent in September 2024 to 14.97 per cent in October 2024. The Central Bank of Kenya lowered its benchmark interest rate from 12.75 per cent in September 2024 to 12.00 per cent in October 2024. The interbank rate fell from 12.67 per cent in September 2024 to 12.07 per cent in October 2024. The weighted average lending rate at commercial banks increased from 16.91 per cent to 17.15 per cent, while the weighted average deposit rate decreased from 12.09 per cent to 11.85 per cent during the same period, as detailed in Table 3.
