INTEGRATED SURVEY OF SERVICES (ISS), TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE SURVEY(TSS) & SURVEY OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN SERVICES (SITS) 2026
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) is conducting the 2026 Integrated Survey of Services (ISS), Transportation and Storage Survey (TSS) and the 2026 Survey of International Trade in Services (SITS) between June and September 2026. These nationwide surveys will collect vital economic and financial data from enterprises in Kenya’s service sector for the years 2024 and 2025.
Integrated Survey of Services (ISS)
- A nationwide survey to measure and update benchmark data on Kenya’s service sector.
- Provides information used to estimate the contribution of services to GDP and revise/rebase the National Accounts.
- Includes a stand-alone questionnaire on Transportation and Storage, recognising its importance in production and trade.
- Conducted in line with ISIC Rev. 5 for international comparability.
Transportation and Storage Survey (TSS)
- Estimation of Transportation and Storage sector to services and overall GDP
- Enhancement of the Transportation and Storage database.
 Survey of International Trade in Services (SITS)
- Kenya’s first comprehensive national survey on trade in services with the rest of the world.
- Collects data on transactions between residents and non-residents across service categories.
- Developed in collaboration with stakeholders, including the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
- Aligns with international standards such as BPM7 and MSITS 2010.
Why ISS, TSS & SITS Matter
- Economic Measurement: Services account for over half of Kenya’s GDP. These surveys ensure an accurate reflection of structural changes.
- Policy & Planning: Data supports National Accounts, Balance of Payments, and trade negotiations.
- International Standards: Ensures Kenya’s statistics are globally comparable.
- Better Coverage: Expands beyond goods to include services like transport, finance, ICT, and digital trade.
- Improved Accuracy: Provides detailed breakdowns and corrects misclassifications.
Objectives
 The surveys aim to:
- Estimate the service sector’s contribution to GDP.
- Update benchmarks for service industries.
- Capture international trade in services by destination and source.
- Improve Balance of Payments statistics.
- Support policymaking, trade negotiations, and business planning.
- Updating various Transportation and Storage statistics indicators to comprehensively measure its contribution to the economy
Target Respondents

- Enterprises engaged in service-related activities (transport, ICT, finance, education, health, retail, etc.).
- Entities involved in exports of services or imports of services during 2024–2025.
- Questionnaires should be completed by CEOs, Finance Managers, or Accountants with in-depth knowledge of operations.

- Conducted under the Statistics Act, CAP 112 Laws of Kenya [Rev. 2022].
- Establishments are legally required to provide information.
- All data is treated with strict confidentiality and used only for statistical purposes.
