She holds a Master of Arts degree in International Development from the International University of Japan (IUJ), (2003) and Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics and Computer Programming (Second Class Honours – Upper Division) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, (1994).
Ms. Mary Wanyonyi has vast experience in designing and conducting sample surveys, compilation of official statistics, socio-economic database development and environment statistics. She has a wide range of expertise in poverty and other social statistics analyses. She is the coordinator for the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and the focal person for the post 2015 Development Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at KNBS. She is a member of the Kenya National Statistical Society (KNSS).
Prior to her appointment as acting Director Strategy and Development, Ms Wanyonyi worked as the Head of food monitoring and environment statistics (2009-2016). She was a core member in designing and developing the Strategic Plan for Agriculture and Rural Statistics (SPARS) in Kenya. She has been involved in designing and implementing major statistical programmes at KNBS, including the Kenya Population and Housing Censuses of 1999 and 2009; and the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey of 2005/06.
