Announcement of 2025/26 Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS)
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) will on 16th July 2025 commence data collection for the 2025/26 Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS). This national exercise covering the 47 counties will be undertaken for a period of twelve months; 16th July 2025 – 15th July 2026.
Purpose of the Survey
This nationwide survey aims to collect comprehensive data to support national planning and policy development, monitoring of living standards, income distribution, and poverty levels.
The survey will provide the following indicators:
- Demographics
- Education and health
- Fertility and mortality rates
- Employment and labour conditions
- Child health and nutrition
- Housing, water, sanitation, and energy use
- Households’ expenditure on consumption
Methodology
Trained enumerators will conduct face-to-face interviews in selected households across the 47 counties. The enumerators will wear identification badges bearing QR Codes for authentication and introduction letters from KNBS. Data will be collected using tablets.
Target Population
The survey will target scientifically sampled households across all counties and refugee camps.
A total of 24,480 households and 960 from refugee camps will participate.
