Food and Non Alcoholic drinks’ index went up by 0.5 percent between the months of June 2010 and July 2010. The increase is attributed to rises in the prices of Potatoes, Sukuma Wiki, Cabbages and Milk by 10.0, 8.5, 15.4, and 3.4 percent respectively, among other food items. For instance, a kilogram of Potatoes was retailing at an average price of KSh. 37.9 in July 2010 compared to KSh. 34.4 in June 2010. However, there were notable falls in the prices of Tomatoes and Maize flour by 11.3 and 4.9 percent respectively.
